Snorkelled of Diani and enjoyed it - quite a lot of life. I understand
however they do/used to dynamite/cyanide fish off that part of the coast and
it's not as great for diving.

Dived off Kassiti a bit further south, and that was great - loads of life,
turtles etc and wild dolphins - it's a marine nature reserve so things are
more protected.

Either way, make sure you go inland and see some of the game parks - Shimba
Hills is quite close and well worth going - you can hire a 4x4 and go
yourself or book a tour.

Have fun - I may be there in Feb!

Default diving in Kenya

Hi all,
Frequent lurker but need some advice. Our holiday to the Maldives was
understandably cancelled as we were due to fly out on the 28th of december,
we have rebooked to Kenya, mombasa coast and intend to do several days
diving, there are 3 of us who are all fairly competent. What thickness
wetsuit would you reccommend and do you have any favourite dive sites. I
have been told that Malindi area is good.
Any other advice for diving in Kenya gratefully recieved, by the way we
are leaving on the 16th of Jan.
Thanks in advance, cheers Neil

I dived off the coast of Mombasa a couple of years back, just used a
shorty.

If I recall correctly I was diving with a company called Barracuda. They
seemed to have offices in most of the larger hotels (I was at the
Travellers Club (?), Bamburi beach .... by the way I was advised NOT to
go on the beach at night time for security reasons)

Other than that it was a great holiday.

Lots of turtles, dolphin, morays and white tip reef sharks.

Have a good time

I was supposed to be going to Kenya for Jan, but work meant I had to
cancel it. From what I've read, the diving around Malindi is normally
blown out in January and the dive shops take you out in Watamu instead.

I haven't tried diving in Kenya. I guess it would be great and brave to dive there, coz as far as I know Kenya is a part of Africa that is surrounded by jungles, thus people would be more prone to coming across with different wild animals. I don't know if there are anacondas in Kenya but I am really afraid of coming across one.
