As of this morning, although there has been many, many deaths
there is only one reported death of a Briton. He died of a heart
attack whilst the storm was in progress.

And the final update, they made it home last night. Apparently they were
underwater when the wave came past, got back on the boat and made for what
they beleived to be an island - it was, and a local fed and watered them
before being swept away by a subsequent wave (presumed dead).

They were then taken back to their resort to salvage what they could (they
only got their passports etc which were in a top shelf cupboard in their
water bungalow) then to another resort (guessing the main island in Meemu)
and spent the night in a gym-hall before being picked up by the Pakistani
warship that went to the outer Atolls and brought to Male.

They flew home still in their swimmies and flip-flops and were given clothes
by Oxfam at London.

Sounds pretty horrific, even though it seems that the Maldives were the
luckier ones...

Again thanks for the websites, they were invaluable.

I *think* (well, hope) that he's still in NZ, and was coming
back to the UK before going off to the Maldives.

Funny that, I nearly booked a week there to get away
over xmas, but never got a round tuit. There's something
to be said for a shortage of tuits.
