Not convinced any dive is worth getting up at 5.30am for. Always thought
that was more of a bedtime than a getting up time and their success rate
of actually seeing any whilst we were there was about 1 in 4.

Ah well, I only went the once and we saw 12 of them (together), one or
two at a distance of about 6 feet. I have some pictures, but they are
pretty crap.

Yes I read your bit on your website - your eventual trip to the Red Sea
having managed not going there for many a year. First time I went there I
did the 4am anti-social thing, and when we eventually made it there the sea
was so lumpy it was deemed too dangerous to go diving. Getting in the water
would not have been a problem, but getting out most certainly would have
been. This year not quite as bad, but nearly so. First dive was OK with the
water getting lumpier as the day went on. Second dive I chose not to take a
camera as I figured it would most likely be smashed on the way out. On
ascending, the group hung around on the line at 5m with pairs taking it in
turn to go to the surface and getting aboard, with the dive guide
orchestrating it from the surface about 10m from the ladders. Just as well.
A number of divers fell back in having made it aboard, several manged cuts,
and everyone collected heavily bruised shins. And of course it was diver
soup while down there.

And everyone told me that it would be rough in December. It was like a
mill pond for a week. I stopped taking the tablets and anyone who knows me
knows how susceptible I am to seasickness.

Devil looks after his own, I guess :)
