Default Malta in October

Hi folks
Going to Malta (if we can get flights) the last week in October.
Probably going to be staying in the Marsascala area. Has anyone any
dive operator recommendations for us. Hotel info would be welcome to
although we may be staying with a friend.

TIA

Reg

Dive Med are in Marsascala - You might want to talk to Simon Bradburn (the
technician at Wittering Divers (01243 672031) - He has an apartment that he
rents out to divers.

Best

Raymond Ciancio from Sport Diving in Marsacala - Tel. 639222 (in Malta) or
email sportdiv@digigate.net

Not been there in a couple of years but give v.good service, anything from
guided dives to giving you tanks and letting you go off on your own.

He also has a boat which can take you out to a blemhem bomber in Marsacala
bay (well worth it) its in about 42m.

Our friend in Malta (and her ex Diver Brother here) are both familiar with Dive
Med. They know the owner I believe, so they have already recommended them.
The apartment isn't on the cards though as I think our friend keen for us to
stay with her but failing that, I may well give Simon a call.

Thanks
Reg

We went to Marsascala in September 1999 and stayed half-board at the Hotel
Etvan for UK£70 for the week. It was basic but perfectly acceptable. It's
a 5-10 minute walk from Sport Diving run by Ray and Jo Ciancio and they
treated us brilliantly: they gave us a good guide (a Canadian called Mike)
who ran us around the island in an elderly minibus and we covered many of
the main shore diving sites, invited us to join them when they had a
barbecue, and were generally just wonderful hosts. If you meet them, say
hello from Rudy and Rebecca!

The only thing you might not notice in evidence is emergency oxygen,
although they may have sorted that out by now.

And do try to get out to the Blenheim bomber in Marsascala bay, something we
never managed to get around to doing.

R.

Hi Rudy,

Chris already mentioned the bomber earlier in this thread, but as I explained to
him, it's too deep for the meagre talents that my wife and I currently possess.
However, I am hoping to improve and I will add this to my growing list of 'dives
to do'.

Thanks for the info.

Reg

Don't worry about your skill level. Its a simple 42m dive clear water - and
we all know nothing can go wrong in clear water - its the murkey stuff that
kills you!

I'm sure you are right Chris, but my Padi qualification only covers me for dives
to 18m and I'm sure my insurance says something similar, so I think for now,
I'll stick to what I know until I get a few more (like 100+) dives in. That
will take for ever if I don't venture into cold water I know, but then I'm not
in a hurry

Thanks again.
