Default Gozo was fun...

Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas as I struggled to find a holiday
suitable for a 10th wedding anniversary (without missing out on diving).

We went to Gozo. Collected a hirecar at Malta airport and took it over the
ferry to Gozo. We stayed at L-Imgarr hotel in Mgarr - a beautiful place
overlooking the harbour, which has more intimate restaurants hidden away
than you might think. The L-Imgarr is five-star, but with friendly Gozitan
humanity instead of the usual pompous nonsense. Great food, great service,
super view. Larked around Gozo (and just a day on Malta) in the car, rented
a 40HP boat out of Xlendi and lazily encircled Gozo and Comino (whose Blue
Lagoon is deceptively shallow in parts - oops!). Weather kicked up at just
the wrong time, but got in four dives (Marsalforn, Hondoq, and Blue Hole x
2) which showed the potential. Dived with Calypso out of Marsalforn -
well-run and friendly. Came away with an enduring affection for the
Maltese. It's worth noting that the tourist season is all but over at the
end of October, so some facilities are closed, but there are no crowds.
Weather fine, except for unusually rough winds this time, most divers
comfortable in 3mm or 5mm full suits - I was fine in a 5mm shortie but I'm
"internally insulated."
