Yes, try and get the book 'Shore Diving in Malta' by Peter Lemon. Do a
google search on this group for recommended operations. I've dived
there and liked the people I dived with, however, the more I've dived
since the more I've realised how poor their safety actually was.

Yes. I can recommend Malta. But it really depends on what you expect to
get out of your time there.

It's typical Mediterranean, i.e. there is not much fish life. But the
underwater geology is good with drop offs, walls, swim thoroughs and
caverns. There are a few wrecks around, HMS Maori, Blenheim Bomber,
Rozi and the Um el Faroud are the favourites.

Diving is predominately shore based and if you have a buddy you can
hire tanks and equipment and explore the dive sites yourself without a
guide which is they way I prefer it. You can then visit sites before or
after all the dive centers and often end up having wrecks all to
yourself.

Someone mentioned the book by Peter Lemon. I highly recommend it. I use
that as the basis for all my unguided dives.

If you want to see what it is like underwater in Malta, take a look at
