Winter Diving In Malta

Drysuit, it's going to be chilly in the water and likely to be cool
with rain when you're on the surface.

I went diving in Gozo last year and just had an email response from the dive
centre over the same question.

Here is their response ...
"We are open all year round...........however, from December until May I
dive in my drysuit!

Actually, the best time to come to Gozo would be from May until October.
The water temperatures are approximately 13 - 14 degrees in March, 15 - 16
degrees in April, 17 - 19 degrees in May, 20 - 22 degrees in June, 23 - 26
degrees in July, 27 - 29 degrees in August, 27 - 25 degrees in September,
24 - 22 degrees in October, 22 - 20 degrees in November, 20 - 18 degrees in
December, 17 - 14 degrees in January, 14 - 13 degrees in February.

Moreover, March is normally the worst month for storms, strong winds and
very rough seas.

This said, we have divers using 2-piece 5mm wetsuits all round the
year...... it depends from one person to the other. You can also be
lucky....... you might come for a week in March and find summer-like
conditions but on the other hand you might not be so lucky..."

Just got back from Malta and water temp is not going to change too much til
March. I dived in a dry suit, but many dived in 5mm 2 piece wet suit and
they said they were fine till they got out the water and the wind chill
factor hit them! But if you are in a sheltered spot - no probs.
