Default Mauritius Diving - Wet Suit Options

Hi All,

I'm off to Mauritius in July for a couple of weeks on the family hols. Would
appreciate a heads up on what sort of wet suit would be best. I've got a 2mm
full body suit I picked up in Australia that was fine last time I was in the
Caribbean when the air temps are 80 and the water temps 70+, but the average
air temps in Mauritius are a bit lower in July, in the low 70's, so the
water might be a bit cooler. Anyone care to proffer some advice?

On a separate note, what if any large pelagic / shark activity am I likely
to see in Mauritius around July time?

Cheers

Simon.

You are right. It is cooler in Mauritius in July, it's their winter.
I dive in a skin there all year round but most folk prefer a 3-5mm. in
the winter. If I were you I would take or rent a cheap shortie, you could
wear this over your 2mm. when you need it.

You may see dolphins and reef sharks in the south & east of the island.
In the north there is a dive a "shark point" which is only sharks, mostly
reef & grey-reef but the odd bull-shark too.

What you see depends mostly on where you are staying and how good your
operator is! Probably the greatest variety is in Flic en Flac.

While you are there rent a car (not in your hotel) and drive around to
visit the different areas yourself. Taxis are extortionate and driving is
easy. You will probably not need an a/c car in July so aim to pay 800-900
rupees for a local hire operator. You will pay double that at the hotel
hire desk

If you do a google search on Mauritius and diving you should find plenty
of interesting threads.

Consider getting yourself a hood too, if you are going to be doing
continuous diving.
