Default Diving in Mexico

Hello,
I'm thinking on going to Mexico for the new year.
Can anyone tell me the best places to dive there, and a good hotel with
diving center.
Thanks

I would recommend Cozumel. The water is around 80 degrees (27 C) year
round. The diving is drift diving with visibility around 100 feet.
Dives are 40-130 feet (15-38 meters).

I like the Brisas Hotel and Dive Paradise. You will find lots of
discussion about the various hotels and dive operators in the Google
archives. I prefer a hotel without meals so I can enjoy the local
restaurants, but more and more hotels seem to be all inclusive. Dive
Paradise is the largest dive operator on the island. It might not be
the absolute best, but it is very good.

English (and Spanish, of course) is widely spoken.

Same place. I think it also used to be Fiesta. Next year it will
probably have a different name. From what I hear, most of the beds in
Cozumel are hard. Probably because they have no box springs and sit on
a concrete platform. I get used to it in a night or two. Or maybe I'm
so tired from diving that I don't notice any more.

Someone told me about Bahia Principe Hotel, in Riviera Maya. They told me
that is a good hotel to spend the new year eve.
Anyone know this hotel?
Do you know if their dive center is any good? and what about the dives from
there

The running joke is the Costa Club changes names after every death down
there.

As far as the other poster Dei Paradise recommendation, the DM's at Scuba
Club Coz refer to them as DIE paradise as well. Last year during 8 days I
was there they only killed one diver and lost(revcovered) another.

All of the beds suck.

If you want a good all inclusive and do not mind the cattle boat operations
try Scuba Club Cozumel.

If you want ala carte' call Papa Hogs.(No relation)

You could try Xcalak and maybe do a trip out to Chinchorro Banks. There isn't
much of a party scene down there but it's a great place to get away to. Kind of
like taking a step back in time.

Hi there Manel. I don't know the Bahia Principe. I visited Continental
Plaza Hotel in Playa del Carmen 8 weeks ago and I'd go back there in a
heartbeat, esp for New Year's Eve. Even if you didn't stay at
Continental Plaza, there are lots of hotels in Playa del Carmen with
price ranges to suit anyone's budget. The town itself is very
pleasant with lots of dive shops, restaurants, bars and shopping
areas...plus there are other things to do if you don't want to dive. I
went diving on Chinchorro Reef during that same trip and while I
enjoyed it very much, I would not spend New Year's Eve there if I
wanted to be around 'a crowd'. What is it that you are looking to do
??
