That's the draw of the Keys, isn't it? You won't find anyplace in the caribbean quite like the Keys in terms of fish populations. The intense mangrove system provides an unmatched hatchery and as a result even though Keys reef system have been suffering over the years, the fish populations, particulalry once they passed the line measures, have become without compare. Personally, I don't like Coz **all that much**. It is good diving and easy to get to, and of course the local atmosphere is enjoyable, but as a diving destination, while it is good, it isn't spectacular. In this part of the world I think there are areas of Belize that trump it by significant measure. Of course that's just a personal opinion and others' MMV. > If you have any operators in St Maarten, St Thomas, Nassau, Puerto Rico People have already posted about Puerto Rico and the Saints so I'l stick to Nassau. If you have enough time, skip Nassau diving and head south to either Stuart Cove or DiveDiveDive. Both of which dive Tongue of the Ocean area. Both also have free shuttle service from Nassau. There is far better diving at the south end of New Providence than any other area around the island and these two operators are extremely good. I don't have a preference of one over the other. Both will provide you with expert service. While you are down there lunch or supper at Avery's is advised (it's in the village of Adelaide, just down the road from either dive op). Whenever on NP (which for me has been a few years) I head there for a plate of fried chicken with peas and rice. I've actually never had better fried chicken than they serve. It's some Caribbean twist they put on the dish, but it's superb. This place is a classic, and one that won't weather history and development well, so give it a shot if you like no-frills Bahamian fare (I've had people tell me their Conch dishes are as good as it gets). Avery's is a little end of the road eatery, but anyone on this ng that has eaten there will likely tell you it was good and enjoyable. Be forewarned, Avery thinks he's Frank Sinatra :^) |

Dan, as I said in my initial (and the only one till now) post, you and two others seemed the only sane posters in the last 150 of the 162-post thread. The thread has now grown to 175. Ms Chilly asked me to look for the common denominator to explain the phenomenon. Give me time. I am looking ... So far, I see (excepting you, Dan) nothing but the same ones who I thought were insane. The names Chilly, Hugh, and Lee certainly ring a _bell_ somewhere in my short memory in this newsgroup. DF |
