Turn around and grab the octo from one of the guys behind you. And scubacenote claims to be an INSTRUCTOR of several different agencies? WOW! When I was diving on the liveaboard in Tobago, in completely unfamiliar surrounding, and the HP broke blowing my pressure gauge out of my console completely, on decend. Did I call the dive and ascend normally? Well yes, but only after I had taken my time to retrieve the blown out gauge at the bottom of the ocean (only about 50 feet) and THEN took my time to ascend back to the boat. LP? I would drain a full tank much faster. But anyone who can't handle ANY OOA situation (equipment failure -- anyone should be SHOT for actually running out of air, for whatever reason other than equipment failure) at whatever depth he is diving SHOULD NOT be diving at that depth. Most "Devil's Throat" dives go through the cheese holes and come out of some FAKE THROAT, above 115 ffw. Of the over 100 Devil's throat dives I have done -- with a group, only about 5 of the went to the Real Throat -- most of the divers were just as clueless as scubacenote about Open Water diving in Cozumel, or any of the dive sites. It's a much better dive to see the throat is to see the fabulous Punta Sur WALL below the exit of the REAL Throat, and then ascend to its lowest point of exit around 135 fsw. That requires SOLO diving while the group is led around the FAKE throat. Been there. Done that. Many times. > > Anybody who remembers their training and doesn't panic can get out of > almost any problem. Been there, done that, didn't get a t-shirt. The training to ANTICIPATE (the 7 As in rescue) in Open Water training is even more important for diving in any overhead environment. I hate to think that scubacenote panic when his HP broke near the entrance of a cenote and cave and DIE because of his panic rather than just take the time to take a normal exit. -- Reef Fish Bob. |

| I just do not go into overhead with out my full cave equipment so I have redundancy and will always be safe and calm! (do it dayly) Call me a pussy, I consider myself very conservative, I do not have to play tarzan any more: Been ther done that! I am also getting old, that is all... You guys are talking about hoses, but forgot about the narrow and the people bloking, Of course it is ok for me to do any kind of emergency ascent out of any trouble (except being trapped between obstacles preventing me from doing it), seems to me that I am really going to listen to Bob, and go to a tech forum: Bye for ever. I have never ever had an incidet and I thing that is a lot to say when you've been taking people diving every day for ten years. scubacenote |
