Default Travel from Cancun to Tulum in Yucatan Peninsula

I am a diver and have spent a lot of time in Cozumel and have gone to
the Cenotes ("Dos Ojos") south of Playa del Carmen.

I am interested in traveling along the corridor between south of Cancun
all the way to say, Tulum.

Would like to get recommendations for reasonably priced hotels along
the way which have the usual amenities (a/c, tv etc) but aren't the
garrish all-inclusive types. Would also like to hear about some good
dive locations.

Proximity to the water and dive shops would be important though several
blocks away is fine too.

Any recommendations or comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sy

Years ago, I somehow ended up spending a few days in Akumal and stayed
in the Akumal Caribe. At the time, it catered to divers and snorklers
and was pretty low rent, but really very nice, and right on the water.

Looking at their Web site, I see they've built it up a bit, and I don't
know if there's any relation to the place I stayed other than the name.

Even so, Akumal is a noted dive destination.

We go down there almost every year, and like the Hotel Club Akumal
Caribe. We get one of the little cottages, called Villas Maya. You are
right on the beach just a few steps away from one dive shop and a 3
minute walk from another. There is also the Vista Del Mar a little
farther north in Akumal. There is a dive shop on the premises there too.
both of these are inexpensive and definitely not high end, and the beds
are typically pretty hard. The Villas Maya don't have TV. This site will
give the OP a pretty good idea of what is available:
