Default Cancun dive operators

My wife and I will be in Cancun from 7/26-8/2 and are looking for
recommendations on dive operators. Has anyone had any experience with
personaldiving.com? We will be staying at the Cancun Palace which looks like
it has some sort of agreement with a local dive shop. Any comments on Cancun
would be appreciated since this is the first visit.

Have you been to Cozumel? If not spend the time and little money to make it over there.

The diving is much better. Take a cab to Playa Del Carmen and the ferry
over to Coz

There's a pretty good group named "Solo Buseo" (means 'Only Diving'); they
were affiliated w/Royal Resorts. We went to Cancun a few weeks ago. $60
for a 2-tank dive includes equipment. Nice reefs off the north part of the
island are their specialty. I'll use them again.

I also remember Scuba Diving Magazine rated some of the operators a few
months back...worth checking out.

I wholeheartedly agree with you recommendation of Solo Buceo. In my mind,
their main advantage over other operators is their location. They launch
right off the premises of the Camino Real hotel, which right near the
convention center and in the heart of the Zona Hotelera. As such, they are
very close to the top dive sites in Cancun. Other operators launch off the
Gulf Side, which is a bit further and some launch off the Lagoon Side which
is even further since since you have to go around the island. I found their
workers very friendly and their divemasters very competent. Though diving in
Cancun has some unique aspects to it, it still remains a mediocre dive, at
best, when compared to Cozumel, which is not too far away. I would
definitely try to do a dive or two in Coz, especially when you're that
close.
