| Thanks to all who helped direct us to a dive operator in Mahahual / Costa Maya, Mexico. We were there last week off Grand Princess looking for new dive site to try. We did have an e-mail confirmation from "Arturo" in Mahahual - so we grabbed a taxi to go look for him in town (very small on the ocean). We found his dive flag but no Arturo. Seems his mom is sick and he had gone to Mexico City. We ask around if there are any other dive operators around and a guy tells me about Blue Ha - 2.5 kilometers south. Now this sounded ok as I had been referred to him by a local tourist message board - just couldn't contact him as telephones and electricity had not gone south of Mahahual. Doug Campbell-Smith of Blue Ha is a great guy who just built his dive center - ahead of the growth curve. He is a Zimbabwean who has been all over the world - with his Master Scuba Diver Trainer PADI certification. His boat was broke - but no problem - we used a local boat. This is not luxury diving and the sea were 3-5 feet in the afternoon when we dove - but the reefs were in great shape (pristine) with lots of small fish (they eat or scare away any thing of size). I would recommend him - we had fun - it was very private and primitive but very peaceful and unrushed. We took a 1:40 surface interval between dives and enjoyed the beautiful beech and palm trees. If you have any question feel free to e-mail me at twomikea@yahoo.com. Doug's site is http://www.bluehadiving.com/ and his card says his e-mail is: bluehadiving@hotmail.com. For now he gets into Chetumal every week or two to check his mail - get air in his tanks, etc. so plan ahead if you just don't want to "pop in" like we did! Mike Altschul |

I'm glad you persevered and got to dive there... and more glad that you shared it so we now know two options in Costa Maya for cruise ship divers. Amber |
