| I just returned from Cozumel and discovered that Pseudoephedrine, also knows as sudafed, is a controlled substance in Mexico. That's right, prison time for over the counter Sudafed. The info came from the American Consular in Cozumel. Just wanted the warning to be sent out. ROE |

The State Department doesn't mention it in their briefing on Mexico. Do you have anything to back up your claim as it pertains to individuals possessing reasonable quantities for personal use? |

| I'm not sure about Mexico but I know for a fact it is illegal in Japan. Sudafed was twice confiscated from my suitcase at Customs in Osaka when returing from dive trips to Guam. (I used to stock up at the K-Mart there.) They told me it contained a 'very dangerous stimulant' and wouldn't let me keep it. One of the true joys of living in Thailand is that my nose isn't stuffed up any more... An example is pseudoephedrine. So you can't buy Sudafed, but you can buy the Mexican equivalent, called "Perrigo" or something like that. You just have to ask. |
