Cozumel Trip Report - November 9th-18th, 2007 Travelled from Poughkeepsie area, to NY's LaGuardia airport, left house at 4:45am for 8:30am AA flight to Miami, than onto Cozumel(ie., one ff and one purchased ticket). brought breakfast with us, Bagels and etc. , since most airlines no longer provide food. Luggage allowance is 50lbs per bag, so... we now bring 3 bags instead of 2, plus carry-ons (dive mask, computer and regulator and change of clothes). flight left 20 minutes late , but no adverse effects. arrived in miami almost on time, next plane was in same terminal. Arrived in Coz and retreived luggage(ie. it was there!). Began looking for our travel agent for transfer to hotel, slew of timeshare agents decended on us, saying they will help us since our agent had not arrived yet. This of course was sham and we went outside terminal and agent was there and off to hotel. We didn't bite on timeshare agents, just be on your toes when you arrive. Actually , its pretty funny, must work on alot of people since there were 10 to 15 sales people?. We were staying at Iberostar hotel 10 days and 9 nights, approx. cost 1700 for 2, includes food, drink, and transfers. Hotel had 3 restaurants, and alot of bars. beautiful pool, and beach area, even though entry into caribbean was lousy(coral). We signed up with Dressel Divers in advance saved 15% percent. Paid with credit card Dressel Corp in Spain. I got Whale package 18 dives (came to 27-28 per tank) Most dives were a little crowded but dressel was well organized so it went pretty smooth. One of the highlights was school(7or 8) black tipped sharks , too bad current was severe that day, alot of heavy breathing just to get to spot. Had to swim into current approx. 100 yards. Huge groupers, angel fish, turtles and another highlight was the Toad fish, approx. 2 inch with whiskers and wide eyes. Only found in Cozumel(i think). Quite a few Morays and crabs , octopus. Diving was pretty good. This is our 18th year, going somewhere in the caribbean to dive, 5th time to Coz. Returned Sunday , via Dallas then NY. Bought several liters of vodka in Cozumel, make sure you transfer into checked luggage before leaving customs, because you will need to reenter security and you can't carryon liquids. Planning next year; back to Belize or Bonaire. Fred |
