Default Topic? New / Accurate newsgroups needed?

Dear all,

As a newbie to Scuba-diving I decided to look into a few newsgroups to
educate myself before choosing what to buy.

As always, I check into a couple of newsgroups, both european mainland, UK
and US ones, to get some focus on what other people's views are.

Yet I'm quite baffled about the subjects that go arround in this one. As
much as I appreciate some people's opinion on diving gear, technicques and
methodes, while looking for diving stuff, it consumes a lot of time reading
about political and ethical views about guns, wars and other stuff that
drives people towards agressive discussions and sometimes even provocative
or offensive language against each other.

I feel that an in depth discussion about the two (on sales-numbers)
favorites Mares and Scubapro and their cold water features, although
indoubtly already chewed out many times in the past, could help educate new
scuba-divers and lead to new insights much better.

I realise not every topic can be repeated every week or two, but being
enthousiast as I know most divers are, there should be plenty of subjects to
discuss.

Just a happy new diver, eager for knowledge,

Frank

You won't stay happy for long if you read this news group. You sure as hell
won't become knowledgeable about diving either. The name of the news group
is misleading. A name like "I think _____", then your post is your thought.
That still may confound, but it would eliminate unsuspecting posters mislead
by the scuba title. Change that "Dear all" to Dear John and beat keys to a
better source to meet your needs.

Do a google groups search... We've discussed it all before...

We're the SCUBA version of a biker bar... *Sometimes* we discuss diving,
most of the time, we discuss other things... Once you understand and accept
this, you'll fit in...

Frank,

rec.scuba is as rec.scuba is. Don't compare it to nl.sport.duiken.

If you're looking for another forum where they/we talk about diving go to
http://zoekertjes.duiken.be/default.asp

I have difficulties imagining us as a bunch of tatooed guys wearing
fins and open-chested neoprene jackets discussing the merits of the
customized u/w scooters parked in front...

Cheers,

Froggy

Thank God you didn't imagine us as tatooed guys wearing latex, in a 'bar'...
