I am guessing you are talking around or about Auckland? leigh or the Poor
knights www.yukon.co.nz (both north of Auckland) would be a good start.
Sou-eastish of Auckland the coromandal peninisula. Alderman Island
(http://www.tairuadive.co.nz/) , whitianga etc. Or Tauranga, white Island
would be great as well...

http://www.bookadive.co.nz/ would provide a good geographic breakdown... I
have dived mainly in the south (Otago west coast, fiordland, stewart
Island) and Whangarei/poorknights and coromandel if there is anything else
you want to know...

Default New Zealand

Anyone got any suggestions for dive sites or boat
operators in New Zealand, particularly in the North?
Mainly interested in day trips, or shore dives

The better half and I are heading over early in the
new year, and thinking about making some bubbles
while we're there, just for a day or two...

Oh, also any recommendations about where to (or not to)
hire gear from would be handy...

Cheers

Lonsdale Wall, August 2006

You absolutely have to dive the Poor Knights if you dive in NZ - it was on cousteau's top 10 list...
Dive Tutukaka is the biggest operator there and their staff and guides have never let me down. They know the place well and their briefings show it.
Other operators are smaller, but still very good.
Pacific Hideaway does a brilliant liveaboard!
