Default Re: Oman diving - a dive holiday report - blatant plug for my homapge www.stensones.com

Eddie,

If the weather gets a little windy and the sea choppy then try to sit at the
engine end of the boat! We had one day where it got rough and we were sat
near the front- I've still got the bruises from bouncing up and down over
every wave! Also sea sickness pills would have helped as you tended to get
nauseous kitting up on a rocking boat.

When heading back to the resort in the speed boats you tend to get cold so
either strip off wettie and dry off or keep it on until you get back (hood
as well!) Incidentally, I was diving in a 5mm steamer with hood and only
felt cold underwater briefly on the first dive. Other people in 3mm were
really shivering on the boat.

The rest of the time the sea was like a mill pond, so there were no
problems! Try to get on a trip to Fahal Island if you can, that was really
good.

The dive boats go out at about 9.30am, have a one hour coffee break on a
small deserted beach somewhere and are usually back around 1- 2pm, ready for
a late lunch and a laze in the sun. Your hut will be literally 2 mins. from
the dive centre, restaurant and bar.

When diving you can choose to go with the dive guide or not if you have done
20 dives or more (it costs a little extra.), but if you are happy just with
a buddy you can follow the dive brief at your own speed- we seldom saw other
divers! - a nice change from queuing in Sharm!

They really don't push tourism at the resort, so if you want to see anything
else you have to look for it! There are some leaflets for trips in reception
which they can arrange- 1/2 day tour of Muscat- just us + guide in a car was
approx. £30. We also noticed as we were leaving that there were prices up
for taxis to other hotels if you fancied a meal out somewhere else one
night.

We hired kayaks on a day off and went left out of the bay. We left the kayak
on a pebble beach just around the corner and spotted a black tip reef shark
and cuttlefish among other things! Also look out for sea eagles and small
creamy yellow snakes on the rocks close to the shore when you are out
diving.

We really enjoyed our trip- good diving and a quiet resort where we could
relax. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Any more question drop us a line,

Default Oman diving - a dive holiday report - blatant plug for my homapge www.stensones.com

Greetings group(s),

First off apologies for the slight cross posting, but its a UK residents
trip report to Oman, so uk.rec.scuba and rec.scuba.locations seemed a
sensible idea.

Having just got back from a trip to Oman (Muscat) for a few days diving and
winter sun, I have updated my website with trip report details
(http://www.stensones.com/holidays/holidays_oman.asp) and photos
(http://www.stensones.com/diving/dive_photos_oman.asp). Please stop by for
a look if you want to get an idea what Oman would be like for a visit (I
would heartily recommend it).

Enjoy.

Tip: Visit Oman soon; before the developers and tour operators get going,
its blissfully unspoilt and quiet right now.
