Is the message getting through to the non-diving, non-fishing public yet? People aren't likely to get with the program until they see what's in it for them personally. It's the NIMBY thing. JF |

Once folks realize that partially treated sewage - a half-billion gallons a day - is being dumped so close to shore, especially while water restrictions are in effect and salt water is staring to back into the wells, they unanimously want it stopped even if it increases the water bill. The opposition is from the commercial users and developers and their employees the elected officials. esg |

But that concept is not and should not be limited to those who live there in Fla. Perhaps a few TV ads or newspaper / magazine / YouTube spots that are aimed at tourists would be of benefit. I know that Florida depends on tourists' dollars. Letting the tourists know that the ocean they are swimming in is, in fact, a big toilet would surely turn off alot of people. Families wouldn't want their children swimming in a toilet or playing on the beach. College kids, esp those who are taken by Al Gore's Green-Speak, aren't going to want to party there. Once those people start to bitch about how they aren't bringing their kids there for a beach vacation, and the college kids decide to go elsewhere for Spring Break, businesses and hotel owners would complain. Something would have to be done. My point is that the message must be heard outside of the "not in my back yard" crowd. I think if I were in charge of the campaign, I'd also rile up my northern neighbors because I'm sure that Gerogia, South Carolina and North Carolina beaches do not want to think about their waters being soiled by the crap (literally) that is carried up from Florida to their waters by currents. |

And here I thought that since most of the Florida population wears Depends, the Everglades/landfills were more at risk than the fishies. |
