Default Andaman Islands

I plan to dive this location in November or December 2004.

Any feedback on dive operators/liveaboards would be most helpful.

I heard that an operation from Phuket was planning to have a permanent boat
out there from around March 2004. Has anyone heard any more about that?

Are you looking for day trips or a weeklong cruise?

I was on Ocean Rover earlier this year and found it, once again, to be the
very best liveaboard I have ever been on. The Andaman Sea itinerary was
pretty good, could have been better and would have been better with greater
vis and more sunlight. It has an astounding population of critters, as well
as good pelagic action, but given the viz and sunlight we were relegated to
enjoying the critter work only. Great food, great crew, super clean boat and
on my cruises nothing out of working order (one note: I have read a report
here from someone who does not share my two experiences on OR, maybe they
will speak up if they read this).

Based on my cruises I recommend OR to anyone diving that area. And I would
recommend Andaman Sea as well, though I think it falls somewhere in between
PNG/Solomons and Red Sea as a quality diving destination. I flew Thai Air
and the service was splendid and the price quite nice. I went 1st Class for
$ 2,600.00 which is exceedingly reasonable for sitting up front and holding
a fully refundable ticket..

I'd question whether anyone would put a boat in Andaman Sea permanently
because it is basically a seasonal locale. November through May (NE Monsoon)
seems to be the best time for diving it. And most boats stay away from it
during the SW Monsoon, instead choosing other options in and around Thailand
or North Sulawesi cruises.

Nog,

three ways to get there,

1) a boat charter from Thailand (quite expensive as it takes 1.5 days to
get there and 1.5 back)

2) Fly through India and make a local booking (not good diving close to
Port Balir though)

3) Fly through India or Bangkok (new service) and do the liveaboard trip
you have mentioned whcih will be operated on the Kingfisher I boat
(Kingfisher are relocating the KF1 Liveaboard, and KF3 catamaran to the
Andamans and also offering the Paiyoon 3 for charter).

I am going with my local dive club on Dec 28 - but have chartered
another boat (charters can be had on Aq1, Panunee, Mermaids etc for
about 5000 US/day plus fuel)
