| Puerto Galera is a great gateway diving site form Manila or HK. Nice resort from US$40 a night to budget room of US$10 a night. Dive is US$20 a pop but good discount for a package. There is also package of US$300 for 7d/7n diving and aircon room included. http://www.cyberdiver.net/travel/tra...on/action.html http://www.atlantishotel.com http://www.sabang-inn.com/ The Visayas area also provides great diving at low costs. Cebu can be easily used as the base in the area. http://www.starfish.ch/dive/Visayas.html Moalboal is the famous backpacker diving site. Rooms as low as US$5 a night. Dive is as low as US$10-15. http://www.moalboal.wright-nafzger.org Bohol is another great island good for scuba diving, hiking, cave exploring, kayaking... http://www.bohol.ph There are also a lot small islands nearby for scuba diving. A dive safaris will cover a few islands if you don't want to stay in each island. Any suggestions? Puerto Galera looks a bit "touristy" but everywhere else looks a bit dodgy. Am I just being paranoid? |

Am I just being paranoid? Puerto Galera isn't touristy (or wasn't 2 years ago)! In fact, it was quite basic, very friendly with the locals - too friendly sometimes I went for a 25 days over Christmas (2001) staying and diving with http://www.atlantishotel.com (John Bennett - a friend of mine works their). We flew with Gulf Air and did - 3 days in Manila on the way out (including a trip to the Pagsanjan Falls), a bus/ferry transfer to Mindoro, a Tech Nitrox course with JB, accommodation at Atlantis, 10 Tech dives, 20 rec dives, and a stop over in Manila & Bahrain on the way home. Total cost was £1500/each which included everything. We had a good time, but I wouldn't go back. I'm told that I should have gone to Angles, but I missed out on that Cheers Matt. |
