| What part of Puerto Rico is the best place to use as a base for a diving vacation? |

| Is this a trick question? I've dove 17 Caib islands so far and PR is number 20 or less. It is not very good - do a search on google and see what people say! It IS slightly better than Texas lakes. Mike |

| Another jerk Consider Southwest..La Parguera, Cabo Rojo and for diving the Mona Island trip................... http://www.oceans-unlimited.com/ Best and more responsible operators in the area............... I'm traveling with someone who's an asylum applicant, so we cannot leave the United States (the asylum process takes well over a year). In an island the size of Puerto Rico, there must be good diving somewhere... |

Reportedly, you can also try the northeast corner, towards the USVI's. For that matter, the USVI's are also "Part of the USA", for the consideration of the original poster's travel restriction issue. Bottom line is that the diving near San Juan is pretty poor and not worth the effort. Ditto for other areas where you have river silt leaving the island. -hh |

| I've heard SW is the best PR has to offer - not counting it's outer islands. I think previous poster had the very best idea the USVI are part of the US just like PR. On all good diving is EASY to find unlike PR. I love St Croix - it north side walls, night dives on Fredricksted's old pier, wrecks on west side (all levels) and even the feeding dive out of Christiansted. It is so underrated but that's ok - let the masses go outher places! St John is likewise beautiful with beatiful reefs and lots of fish! Most of it is a National Park. See for a start: http://www.usvi-on-line.com/ Wrapping it up if I was in PR that close (USVI) to great diving I would cry. I did when I dove PR because it was a waste! Mike |

| Mike go to Isla de Mona and you will see what real diving is. I have been to Bonaire, GC, Cozumel, St Thomas and many other places. I still long to go back and dive the pristine hugh channel, walls and pristine clear waters of Isla de Mona. Out of that channels anything can show up....Sharks, Big Fish or anything. The people that I mention before go on Mondays and do a 3 day camping trip. But beware ... no five star hotel ... just a hammock or tent and rustic old shower and bath. If you don't mine, then you are for the best scuba and reef conditions in any place of the world. Sunsets are world class. Make sure you take your dramamine on the way back, cause is a rough way getting back (2 hours of constant pounding). Almonst 80% of people pucked. Thankfully I was not one of them, but had to concentrate a lot. | My Puerto Rican girlfriend suggests the southwest of the island. "H.
