His warped sense of humor seems to be lost on you.

Yeah, and with all the kids I've bummed cigarettes from in 3rd world
countries, it's more like they're trying to entice innocent me!

One kid in Burma I gave a Camel to, actually preferred his own brand
instead and gave me one of his. I had to agree, so he got me a pack
of them along with the bottle of Burmese whisky he went to score for
me and surprisingly showed up at our boat with the goods even though I
had paid him in advance. I love kids.

At least I would never try to rot their teeth like some here. Most
will never live long enough to get lung cancer, but they'll be
toothless by the time they hit 20 thanks to the "benevolence" of
travelers like good ole Daniel. I hope he handed out lots of
toothbrushes too.

I've heard pleas from local leaders decrying the random giving of
often unnecessary gifts. It breeds a dependence on tourists and
forces them into beggery. (Is beggery a word?) Instead, make a
donation or give your goods to a local schoolmaster or chieftain or
doctor and let them allot according to need. Hopefully they'll only
steal half for themselves.

"Burma?"

Don't you mean Mymmar, or whatever they call it now.

I'd love to see Pagan, and didn't know there was any dive operations going
on there. Perhaps you mean, "the Burma Banks" near the Thai border but
accessed through Thailand.

But the idea of traveling or visiting Mymmar until that horrible regime is
gone is repellant.

On my first dive charter to the Solomons...other divers brought along
chocolates...then I decided on my second trip there, that there would be
no harm (in my case) in joining in the activity that others were
doing...not wanting to be left out!
