OK, just wondered who to avoid when I next went back to Malta,
originally I did my OW there but found the diving more limited when I
spent a week in the summer.

I used to dive with Tenerife Dive Club when it was owned by Bob Lenham
(owner of Amphibian Watersports in West Norwood, London), and they were one
of the 1st dive centres to offer Nitrox on Tenerife.

Haven't dived with present owners, but I've spoken to Bob Lenham about them
recently and they sound like nice people (he still goes out there to dive
with them).

Definitely would be high on my list of centres to use, if it wasn't for the
fact that our timeshare is on Lanzarote!

Steve,

Thanks for the tip

I notice that they have a RIB in the marina at Playa De Las Americas, a
Bus/office, and an office on the south of the island. Do they have an
office or something on the marina? If not, where do you get changed and
showered etc?

We just got changed in the minibus and showered when we got back to the
hotel.

No office on the marina.

Steve,

e.mailed them and they are shut for their annual holiday when we are
there. Graham recommended Ocean Dreams in Puerto Colon, but I cant find
a web site, or any info on them - any ideas?

Anyway, having looked at a lot of web sites and reviews, I have decided
that we really want a dive centre which has a site on, or very near, the
marina (in Playa de las Americas), and/or has a boat in the marina.

I have now narrowed this down to:

http://www.mantasub.com

http://www.divingtenerife.net (Diversity)

http://www.estrella-del-mar.com (NAUI only)

http://www.divingshoptenerife.com

If anybody knows any reasons for or against any of these, we would be
grateful

Thanks to all for the various comments.

After a test of the diving down there... There is one really good
operartor...

Tenerife Scuba http://www.tenerifescuba.com/ Chris and Sarah could fix
everything and are really good people. They will be up for the dive
show in Birmingham, go there and have a chat. If you are going down
for a little longer time. (E.g. more than a week.) ask that to fix a
trip over to El Hierro, the diving of La Restinga if way better than
any diving of Tenerife. And that diving is really good.

I'll second what someone else said above about Los Gigantes Diving
Centre being excellent.

It's an English-speaking PADI 5* IDC and we found it to be friendly and
accommodating, with competent and safety conscious staff. It's right
next to the marina and a 5 minute rib ride to some excellent dive sites
at the base of the huge rocky cliffs. Best of all, they have
established a Ray feeding site so you can experience whopping great
beasts pluck fish directly from your hand!

I believe that LGDC have some of their own accommodation available upon
request, but we stayed in Santiago, which is technically the next town
along the coast but actually only a 20 minute stroll.

Their website is at:
http://www.ivydene1.co.uk/lgdc/

Best wishes and enjoy yourself!
Pete
