Never having been to Spain or Ireland, I'll still recommend that you take at least the class/pool portion of your open water class back home where you should be able to understand the instructor even with a thick Irish brogue, and get a referral for the open water dives. That way, you'll actually be diving on your vacation (or holiday, as you may call it), instead of sitting in class, doing homework, etc. The language barrier will be much less apparent underwater. |

| Hello My girlfriend and I I will be in Spain in July and would like to do an Open Water course. Can anyone recommend a dive school close to Seville. We have never dived and speak very little spanish so language wise the instruction would need to be in English. Nightlife is not a priority for this part of our holiday. Please reply to the group or herlihy@NOSPAMdublin.ie Thanks a million for any advice and/or recommendations you can give us. Conor. |

| Thanks but unfortunately that's not an option this close to the holiday. So given that neither of us minds doing the course on our holiday, and the number of English & Irish people living in Southern Spain means there is a reasonable chance of there being an english speaking class can anyone give us a recommendation based on personal experience. At a push hearsay will do fine. Thanks again. PADI turns out plenty of weekend warriors and the training is still probably better than what you would get on your trip (I mean holiday) in an instructor's second language. But suit yourself. I for one personally will withhold giving you my personal recommendation based on personal experience because I have none. |

| Yeah, no doubt I could do a course in that time, if there was one available. If you can't answer the question fair enough but don't make assumptions about what's available here. In fact if you can't answer the question asked why don't you move on to a post where your advice will be of use to someone. Why are you making the assumption that it will be easier for you to take the course in a foreign country in a foreign language? As for what's available there, I know Ireland is a bit backward and all, but I'm certain they have dive instruction there. That's not an assumption. And my advice is of use to you. You're just too stubborn to take the advice. |

Though I'm sure Conor could find an instructor who would be willing to do things a little quicker, a recently-certified Irish diver I met a few weeks ago told me that his OW course took four months and included 16 confined water sessions. He said that was typical for Ireland. -- Shawn There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. |

You will find it difficult in Seville as its 100Km from the Atlantic coast and there's not much water around to do your open water dives. Your best bet would be to head to the Med "Costa Del Sol" but thats not of the doorstep. If you do head to the Costa then I can recommend ScubaNerja Its a joint operation with native english speakers running the Training. |

| Thanks Michael, we've sorted something near Grenada. As for Shawn's post, that gives a fair reflection of the situation here. And Greg, wht don't you read the posts you're responding to and if you've nothing constructive to add keep your paws of the reply button. As for the backward Irish, well they say the old jokes are the best. Clearly this is the exception that proves the rule. And I'll withhold my most important advice for Conor: when he orders an omelet in Spain, he'll end up with nothing but more potatoes. But I do wish him good luck with his classes, or buena suerte in this case, and may all his ocean dives be in green water. |
