Default St Lucia

Would be grateful for lodging and diving recommendations for St Lucia ...
travelling in first week of February ..

Will have one small boy (5 yrs old, nondiver) in tow, as well as wife
(non-diver as well), so slightly more upscale place with kidcare would
probably be best ..

We usually rent a car wherever we go - so can probably go anywhere ... would
be interested in knowing, however, what the time/difficulty factors are in
driving around the island ..

Thanks in advance ...

It's been 15 years since I've been there, but it was fantastic back
then and has continued to get good reviews since. I believe Dan Bracuk
has been there a couple of times and has spoken very highly of it as
well.

Been there once, stayed at Anse Chastenet. Trip report here:
http://www.pathcom.com/~bracuk/Trips/StLucia.htm

Regarding your specific questions:
Upscale- Hey, I stayed there.

Sprog - don't know about children's activities, but, this resort is a
bunch of upscale huts up the side of a mountain, and depending on what
upscale hut you get, there could lots of stairs to climb.

Driving - Patience is a virtue. I think there are two airports, north
and south. We landed at the south airport and it took our taxi ~2
hours to get to the resort. Driving distance was 30 miles or so.
Roads are narrow, undulating, winding, and pot holey.

Was with these lads this summer (september)
http://www.frogsdiving.com/

good folks with a great attitude

A few tips for you
If there is a helicopter transfer that cuts out drive time--take it-----from
the main airport(near anste chastnet) it takes around 2 1/2 hrs to drive to
the other end-Castries

Do not rent a car--not worth it--take taxis as you can do deals for the
day/trip etc

check when anyone quotes a price whether it is US$ or Carribean$----and
haggle like hell, the first price is generally US$,you will get what you want
for the same number of Carribean$ 1US$=2.7 Carribean$

Book all inclusive--Club St Lucia is fair game for the money---alot of
places do not take kids

Stay out of Castries, bit of a "turf war" going on recently, shootings are
getting common.
