Thanks for sharing that. Did you ever do a trip report? I'm quite
interested in Bequia as one of my upcoming destinations.

sorry chilly but I never did
I can tell you that I wasn't overly impressed with the diving, as it would
appear that having run out of 'big fish', the locals have been spearfishing
the reefs, which in turn has seen marine life drop accordingly. The only
turtle I saw was in the turtle sanctuary, ran by a really nice American guy
who the locals think is crazy!!
Unfortunately, the locals see turtle eggs as a delicacy and dig them up as
soon as they are laid. This actually happened on our second week not 100m
from where we were staying! Unfortunately, we didn't find out until the
morning after.
The dive outfit I dived with was 'dive bequia' who, whilst being
knowledgeable, didn't like allowing dives of longer than 40mins-irrespective
of depth!!.It also became apparent that any current faster than 1 knot per
month was dangerous and to be avoided at all costs!!
No discount was given at all for either being a dm or having all your own
equipment.
As for the island-well, its damn hilly!! take bloody good walking shoes or,
do what we did and get a taxi everywhere. There is a relatively good
infrastructure and most of the island has concrete roads.
The locals are really friendly and crime doesn't seem to be a problem-unlike
St.Vincent.
As for costs-well, for me, id rather be spending my hard earned wonga in
Thailand! I always seem to come home with money still in the bank unlike
bequia, where I had to arrange an overdraft with my bank!!
One word of warning for you if you do go-check what kind of dollar your
being quoted/charged with, EC or US!!

Thanks for that. I had noticed that their prices were a bit high for the
dives compared to many other places I could get to more easily. However, if
the diving had been special then, I might have made an exception.

Do I understand you to say that you have been diving St. Vincent? How about
Carriacou?

only did two dives on St.Vincent-one was French house reef which was a
pretty wall dive and the other was near to where they filmed the harbour
scenes in 'pirates of the Caribbean, again, a pretty dive if my memory
serves me.The only snag is that its an hour boat ride from bequia and I aint
too hot on boats!!!
I did forget to mention that dive bequia had the best dive boat by far, but
don't take that too much as a compliment, the rest were really shite!! When
asked where the O2 set and 1st aid kit was, I was reliably informed that
they were in the dive shop!!, however this was my own stupid bloody fault
for not asking until my 4th day of diving with them!!
