I'm looking to do a few days of diving off of Tanzania in July after climbing Kilimanjaro. Anyone have any first hand advice / suggestions? We know it's not the best diving in the Indian Ocean, but we're there and why not? Also, anyone know if there are any known problems diving after climbing to some serious altitude (19,360 feet)? Sounds silly, but I'd thought I'd ask. Thanks and happy new Year Phil

July in the Indian Ocean is the height of the SE monsoon. I know it is a good time to be in East Africa insofar as climbing Kilmanjaro but it is not a good time for diving in a part of the world, just because you happen to be in that area or close to it....(along the East coast of Africa) where diving is not the greatest. I was in the Seychelles in mid-July for diving once and it was one rain shower after another. The Safari in East Africa was great, but the diving was not! Wouldn't the RE-Compression time be so gradual? I remember flying into Coz and shore diving that afternoon. Seems to me that descending the mountain would take a day at least. I would think that it would be safe. However, if you are taking a helicopter ride down and expect to dive the same day? Keep it shallow like snorkel. JOhn

Ciao Phil, july is not a good month for diving in Tanzania but anyway Mafia is for sure the best place. It is the only place where there is a bay always protected by wind. Diving fantastic and you will find best service and best prices on Big Blu diving center . BIG BLU Ciao. Mario
