| I am planning to dive on Zanzibar and/or Pemba. Did anybody already dive there? How is the visibility? What kind of fish did you see? Would you advise to combine Zanzibar and Pemba or only to stay on Zanzibar? |

Service quality may differ from what you are expecting. Climate as well. Matthias |

Perhaps that had to do with the time of the year I was there, but the vis was 5-10m, there werent a lot of fish and the coral was pretty blah as well (I admit to being spoiled when it comes to tropical diving, given that I dive in the Andamans). Pemba is supposed to be better, but I cannot say first hand. My recommendation would be to avoid Bahari Divers in Stonetown... know-it-all DMs and a very unprofessional attitude. Head up to Nungwe and dive with the outfit formerly called Dive Africa. Good vibes, nice staff. Better yet, go down to Mozambique and dive there. The prices are major-league "ouch" ($75 per dive), but in 1 dive + boat trip out and back, I snorkeled with 4-5 whale sharks, dived with maybe 12 manta rays (got bored with them by the end), saw 2 whales - 1 within 10m of the RIB - and dolphins in the distance. Not bad, eh? Vandit |
