Default Diving in Thailand

Hello Everyone,

I have an opportunity to spend some time in Thailand and do some
diving (are you envious yet) at the begining of May and wanted some
feedback on some options being offered and any other feedback.

I am considering two options; both liveabords:

MV Colona VI
MY Anggun

To minimize packing I will be renting most of the equipment (BC, Reg,
etc) but bring my own mask (perscripion) and computer.

Thoughts / comments / conserns?

Thanks in advance.

Nice boats. Poor time to dive that side of Thailand. You should be able
to get a good discount, as the weather and vis is unlikly to be good.
Though that would depend on your usual standards (5 to 10 meters max.)

But no envy as I will be there (gulf of Thailand) for a few weeks soon
myself.

Most likely, the only wetsuits that will be available with be
shorties.

That may or may not be sufficient for a cruise where you will dive
several times per day. I wished I had a full suit the last time I did
one in the Similans. YMMV. If that may be a problem, then check with
the dive operator which wetsuits is available beforehand, or bring
your own wetsuit.

Are you ready to dive if the weather is not 100% up to your
expectations? If not then carefully check the likely weather as May is
just the transition between the two seasons in the South.

Cheers,

Froggy

May is the turning point although I was in the Sims last May and the
weather was great. For boats in the same price range also consider the
Aqua One, Panunee, Viking - you should be able to get a deal on a May
price.

For beginning of May all boats are normally available but second half of
May the boats that head down to Indonesia for the "winter" are out of
commission prepping their voyage.

This will be the first season when the Similans NP stays open all
"winter" (by winter I mean high seas not cold weather) - although when
it gets rough out there it can still be good conditions at the local
sites such as Krabi and Phuket - if you have a bit of time here to
choose your dates dependent on the 5 day forcast all the better

Siam Divers (DiveNsail) is a good web resource to see the majority of
the boats available
