Hi, I am looking at a romantic break in Samui in Oct. My wife is also a diver and although the main point of this trip is R&R we may do a couple of day trips. Has anyone dived there before and can recommend an operator, preferably one that doesn't have 20 OW students on the boat I am aware Gulf is inferior to Andaman side but have dived out of Phuket many times and as I said the main point of this trip is not diving and haven't been to Samui b4 but thought since I am there..... -- thomssi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via DeeperBlue.net - Your Online Resource for the UnderWater World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ thomssi's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....nfo&userid=284 View this thread on DeeperBlue.net: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=52901

Why not go to Koh Tao instead? Or spend a few days on Samui and then take the Catamaran over. It's a lovely trip on that boat and Koh Tao is a lovely island and the prices are much better. The dive sites out of Koh Samui are almost the same but have longer commutes. |

jason, Some questions about diving in Koh Tao, I hope you want to answer. -Is it possible to reach an outer reef without boat, (wall dive)? -How much does a boat ride to some deep spot cost? -How is the corals (bleaching, trashed or untouched, etc.)?? Thanks in advance. -- derelictp - Father of Viktor Peter SWE ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via DeeperBlue.net - Your Online Resource for the UnderWater World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ derelictp's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....nfo&userid=325 View this thread on DeeperBlue.net: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=52901

Hi in answer to your questions -Is it possible to reach an outer reef without boat, (wall dive)? A big no but that also applies to Koh Samui, in fact the Samui operators do Trips to Koh Tao! -How much does a boat ride to some deep spot cost? Most operators do 2 dives in the morning and 2 in the afternoon with the morning dives being to the deeper sites. They charge per dive around 900 Baht going down to 600 baht (or less) if you do 10 dives -How is the corals (bleaching, trashed or untouched, etc.)?? The coral varies from realy good to very poor depending on the site. The dives in the afternoon are shallow which is good as the best corals are at about 15-10m. The marine life is very good at the deep sites and good at the shallow sites. I presume that you are flying strait into Bangkok and then down to Samui. If you want I can give you info on how to get to Koh Tao from BKK by overnight Train and Boat. Check out www.scubastuffonline.co.uk it is under construction at the mo, but the site maps for Koh tao are there. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Thanks in advance. -- jason "Looking deeper into the minds of Divers" Jason H ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via DeeperBlue.net - Your Online Resource for the UnderWater World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jason's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=1389 View this thread on DeeperBlue.net: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=52901

The dives at Tao are the same as from Samui. What they have to offer at night time in Tao, after diving? Yes, correct nothing. On Samui you have many different choises to spend your time with family, girlfriend, after diving. It s 50/50, it s depent what you like to do or what expect of your vacation. Cheers Plonske,

Hi, Samui does have more to offer than just diving - Koh Tao is beautiful and yes the operators from Samui take there divers there - you are looking at 1 hr to 1 1/2 hour transport - but you can enjoy the trip taking in the views of the national park and Koh Phangan on your way. Sail Rock, Chumphon & SouthWest Pinnacles are your best bet - although there are plenty of good other dive sites and obviously weather permitting... Prices are more but you can do overnights also (if you want to get early morning and night dives) - you are looking at 3,500 - 4,400 B for a 1 day trip with 2/3 dives. There are many operators on Samui but go for a smaller company if you want to have more personal dives and not be attached to a huge group of mixed diver levels. Staying in Samui Fishmerman's Village/Bophut has a lovely atmosphere, night life, restaurants/bars and a few shops - but as it says is s village atmosphere. You are 15 mins away from the main beach in Chaweng and other sites - The Smile House resort is a good place to stay. I dive with a-seadivers - small groups, professional and fun. You could contact them info@a-seadivers.com - they help not just with your diving but everything else to do with info on your hols. Whatever have a great time!
