| sun bathing in the nude? On my first trip to the Maldives back in 1982, many Europeans on vacations. Some women were seen w/o their tops but on my second to the Maldives in 1987 that all changed. The muslim population was offended by such displays and it was forbidden-- signs all over the place warning the tourist not to allow such things. When I returned in 1990 to the Maldives the situation was still the same. Having visited major diving sites all of the world for 25 years, I began to notice that "great diving" does not come along with other things one wants! As an example, great diving does not necessarily come with "great snorkeling." Great diving does not necessarily come hand-in-hand with gourmet meals...unless you create your own charter dive boat excursion as I once did...it was down in the Caribbean (Guadeloupe and Domenica)-- I took along some French wines and even a cooler full of things that could be cooked up by the French chef -- happened to be the skipper's wife -- who was French...such as veal kidneys flamed with a fine cognac in a brown sauce (I brought along my own demi-glass) and even heavy cream to thicken up the sauce. After diving, a friend who I invited along who was really a beer and a bag of potatoe chips kind of guy ...turned to me and said after a gourmet meal--- this food is great -- but I'm not sure it is right for diving! | Boy, you certainly paint a great picture of a wonderful meal and evening. There are certainly some finer things in life. If I understand you correctly, you are saying that nude sun bathing and diving don't necessarily go hand in hand. But, if they could, do you have any suggestions as to places in the two areas that I mentioned that would be at the top of your list. Our trips are not driven by diving alone, but, we certainly would like to go somewhere where the diving is better than average. We have dived in Bonaire and Belize. Any insight that you can provide is appreciated. Thanks for your response. | My wife and I are planning a trip to either the S. Pacific or Thailand. We are both divers but also want to find a place that is not crowded with great beaches and friendly locals. We don't need a five star hotel but would like to be comfortable. We also do like to sunbathe in the nude. We are planning to go in the Feb/Mar time of year for 3-4 weeks. So, splitting the vacation up between different places is not out of the question as long as they are in the same general area. Does anyone out there know of any untapped jewels or just great places that fit the bill in either of these places? Peter |
