Default Koh Tao - Whale Shark

After many years of diving in Thailand and never seeing a whale
shark....I was finally rewarded last week!
Diving Sail Rock just south of Koh Tao, we were the first divers to
dive at 8.30am. The sea was a flat mill pond and the vis was a very
poor 8/9 metres. We were 5 mins into the dive when a 3/4metre whale
shark came cruising around the corner towards us before veering off
into the blueyonder.

Last time I dived that site 3 years ago my group was the only group to
miss the elusive whale shark, so I'm delighted to have eventually seen
one. Great!
The day before at Chumpon Pinnacle north of Koh Tao we saw 2, 2metre
reef sharks, a huge grouper and stunningly beautiful jellyfish.

Much has been posted about the superior diving on the west coast of
Thailand, and from experience the diving is better on the Andaman Sea
coast but diving around Koh Tao is certainly still worth a trip.
There are too many divers on the popular sites at peak times so try
and choose a dive co. that gets to the sites early before the masses
arrive.
