You can't eliminate literally ALL movement without support of some kind, but you can cut it down to a useful level. Shooting at 1/4th second means you're 8x slower shutter than conventional hand-holding guidelines would piont to. -That being 1/n shutter speed, where n=focal length, or in this case...1/24th of a second. This last one was shot at 1/4th second (actually 0.3 seconds). That's 3 full stops slower...and as your shutter denominator gets into single digits, each drop becomes FAR more significant. > > "Mark²" <mjmorgan(lowest even number here)@cox..net> wrote in message > news:_LmKg.2157$nL2.778@fed1read02... >> >> Of **COURSE** it's "more perceptible at higher focal lengths. While it may not be as dramatic, it is there. Oh, I can distinguish improvements when they are actually there. I won't fool myself in think there are improvements simply because the On/Off switch is in the "On" position. Rita |

The day may come where > IS is simply standard. Great analogy! Let's take it a bit farther. Sure, we have all seen rigid frame bikes, motocross, touring, sport, and drag bikes. Of course, the rigid doesn't have any shocks, but gets its "stabilization" for the rider's ass from other engineered implementations. And we surely wouldn't want to swap shocks from a motocross bike to a touring bike, which is basically a Winnebago on two wheels. Yes, the day will come when IS is standard on everything, mostly due to marketing hype. Yes, the users of it probably won't see any advantage to it because they haven't much of a baseline to make a comparrison. Like anything else, if they learn how to use the On/Off switch properly and master good technique they will have the best of both worlds. Rita |

He's an extremely fertile (if somewhat controversial) Usenet poster; I know of him, from <news:comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage>, where he's a frequent contributor.
