Default DOF underwater

Does the depth of field change when shooting underwater, all else remaining
the same?

You get a bit more DOF underwater. But then everything looks a bit
closer so from the camera point of view there is no increase.

The idea is to go to manual focus. My Oly is not to bad with autofocus, but
my friends Canon S45 has a lot of shutter lag. We are trying to setup to
minimise the lag. It goes without saying that I am converting him to shoot
raw mode.
