Amen. You know, my father once said that we live in a society of
technological savages - 80% of the population doesn't understand 90% of
the devices they use every day.

if you like quotes, my GRAND father (from before personal computers)
used to say that until you've taken a machine apart at least once, it
owns YOU, rather than the reverse. Of course, he was originally talking
about farm machinery

On the other hand, I work in computer tech support. if it wasn't for
ignorance, I'd lose half my income.

Does the fact that the base operating system is
unix make any difference?

First off I prefer any UNIX platform over Windows.. stability, ability
to do more with lower powered processors and I just like it better.

That being said Mac OS X is the best GUI interface ontop of UNIX there
is. Top of the heap.

If that isn't enough, my 4.5 year old Mac G4 Dual 1.42 runs Adobe CS2
like a champ. Guess what, it runs CS3 beta pretty darn well also.

Apple ColorSync blows anything Windows has off the face of the earth.
Back in the Windows days, I had a Color Spyder, and spent ungodly
amounts of time configuring the system so the color from my film
scanner looked right on the LCD Monitor and printed exactly the same
way on printer. With Mac OS X, I hooked everything up, and scan.
editied and printed, and the color synced from day one with out the
painful hours and expense of Windows color macthing.

Oh, and Mac OS X has offered most it not all the features of Windows
Vista for 2+ years now. I don't feel compelled to go out and buy a
new machine to make it work, Did I mention? No viruses, no spyware.
Oh, and my Apple 1.3 GHz iBook runs Adobe CS2 pretty rapidly as well.
While these machines may have cost me a bit of a premium, they still
run my modern Apps very well. Money well spent.

I can read between the lines. You're just another Bush basher.
It's not Shrub's fault that Jeb got the brains and Dubya got the
smirk. But I'll have you know that that smirk didn't come easy. It
took work. Lots of hard work.

It's even more comical to watch these very same people struggle for a clue
when the power goes down.

He makes a valid point. Whether it farm equipment or whatever you should
have a very basic understanding of what is happening so that when you call
for help you don't look like a total fool and become easy prey for a good
screwing.

LOL! How true!

Isn't it amazing how some people will turn any topic to an excuse for
'Bush-bashing'? Sigh. Go to the politics groups!

And isn't it amazing how some people bash the other side
repeatedly with long bumper sticker tags appended to the ends of
their messages, with nary a peep from their fellow Good Ole Boys.
Many of your own views are well known by now and if your complaints
weren't only posted after reading posts whose views you don't share,
they might carry more weight. If you don't like reading these
occasional truths that are infrequently posted, mild as they are,
just replace your burka with one that has a smaller aperture, and
adjust your shudder speed since it's is a mite too quick. Proper
exposure to the light might cure what Ailes ya.

And exposure to the truth might help you see the light.

Hey, I'm not that old!

Yeah, the beard and sandals crowd love to get into Terminal and work
with arcane command lines. All the Unix commands are there.

I don't care about the base operating system. I care about the
interface. I like the Mac interface better than the Windows interface.

I like the interface to be simple, and to get out of the way _now_ when
I'm not using it. I like the Win2k style UI (but not the XP or Aero
"flashy" interfaces), the old Mac interface (not OSX), and Unix Motif
and similar UIs for Linux. I don't like animations on mouse pointers,
menus and windows that slowly display and hide (Aero/OSX/WinXP if you
don't disable that crap), and things like semi-transparent windows which
act like a bug, not a feature. I do use the command line on Windows and
Unix, Linux and BSD (aka OSX) but am not tied to it.
