Default Digital Depth Timer - switch off?

Bought an Aqualung Digital Depth Timer (which, if I'm lead to believe, is
effectively just a rebadged Uwatec) second hand today. Took it in for a
couple of dives at Vobster but have noticed that it doesn't seem to
automatically switch itself off. Do you have to manually switch these things
off? At the moment, it seems stuck on the surface interval display!

I've got one of those in the back of my console. I forget now whether it
switches itself off after 12 or 24 hours.

So it is supposed to stay active for quite some time before finally
switching itself off then? If that's the case then I'm not so worried - it
just seemed rather strange that it feels neccessary to stay on for what has
already been almost seven hours!!!!!
