Has anyone heard of the above and if so where to get them from? A

Then he will find it easier to use shorter fins.

Getting a pair of Volo's is very expensive just for use in the pool - has he
thought about getting boot fins, then he can use it with a drysuit, semidry,
etc, and just get some pool shoes / boots for use in the pool. Saves buying
two pairs of fins...

If he's near W. Midlands, then Decathlon in Merry Hill have Volo Race
(full foot Volos) at a pretty reasonable price (can't remember the
exact off the top of my head)

If he's looking at doing his DM, he ought to be able to fin about in
the pool quite merrily with whatever fins he uses in the open water...

....I'd suggest boot fins over full-foot ones EVERY TIME, because:

a) you get used to them, and your finning style adapts to suit them
b) you can use them in open water, meaning you don't have to pay for
two sets
and
c) everyone else on staff will be wearing boot fins, and you'll feel
more like a dive professional :)

FWIW, my Plana Avantis work just fine for me DM'ing in pool and open
water.

..Of course.

The fins won't function without the specially designed boots
