| Anyone have suggestions for a web site that lists UK dive sites. Giving Location and Dive information. I have had a browse but seem to come up with a number of sites covering localitys. I am looking for one site that links it all togeather? |

| I'm working on a project like this for my MSc in Computing because I have the same opinion about it being difficult to search for relevant dive sites in the UK. Its due in in 2 weeks. Its called an Online Database and Query Engine for UK Scuba Diving Sites. Once my dissertation is finished I'll be finding a host somewhere and releasing it to the masses! Unfortunately it relies on divers entering the information so it will only be useful after a period of time and only if people can be bothered to enter them. I will slowly be filling it up but a one man job will take time. Lots of time. It's primary goals are to: 1. Provide a search for dive sites in a particular uk area (country/county) that meet your requirements (max depth, minimum level, type of dive, access to dive site etc) 2. Allow divers to enter dive logs and a rating system for entered dive sites to obtain general/average opinions on the site (rating, vis, current, photo opportunity, best time to dive etc). 3. Allows users to add comments per dive site for additional information. 4. Allows dive centres, accomodation, hard boats, launches emergency contact information to be entered on a location basis and links these to the location you access a dive site from (currently only county based). I have lots of plans to improve the site in the future. So patience is needed. Laurie "richard" <major@anonymous.to.> wrote in message news:fe6045cb.0308291155.705377f6@posting.google.c om... What is really needed is a good stand-alone program that people can store all their log book entries on, and download them from any dive computer (tricky that bit) - THEN a function needs to be added to update the server with the information in their own database. Then you _might_ get past the stage of "nobody has enterred information into it so it's useless so nobody visits it so nobody enters information in it so it's useless so nobody..." Alun Harford |

I'm afraid that this is the state of the one a month 'enter your dive sites here' web pages I get submited to the ukrs links. DerekD tried it for us and it bombed despite all his efforts and we probably have one of the biggest catchments in UK internet scuba. Sadly there is no such thing as free content. The web pages are the easy bit. nigelH |

| Yeah I agree. I've found many sites out there where you can add dive sites and they aren't populated very much. But what I haven't found is one that can offer searches for suitable sites meeting a criteria (e.g. a shore, wreck dive in Devon that's max. 20m suitable for Novice) and average dive log information for that dive site (vis, current, best time to dive, popularity, overall rating etc.). It would also display services and facilities in that area and allow divers to add coments regarding the dive site. No need to trawl through hundreds of dive sites to find one that's suitable if you want to go somewhere new. I feel it is far more powerful than any other website that I have found. It will be released in a few weeks once the dissertation is complete and I find a suitable MySQL and PHP service provider. UKRS is the place to develop it and if enough people are interested then I'm pretty sure we have enough people with the skills needed... What it needs is a nice pretty UI to start off with, then add some features to download the data from dive computers, and then add a nice simple way to send the data to a server. Anybody else interested? Alun Harford |

I've been toying with the idea of crossing something like the LiveJournal code with Paladin to start logging my dives on-line, but haven't got any further than that... Ideally, the actual dive info from the computer would be represented in some common format with a set of translators for the various formats used by different computers... -- Michael |

Ideally, a system that allowed drivers to be used so that it could be easily updated. Alun Harford |
