Unfortunatly you'll be lucky to get it from any airline at the moment.

I know that MyTravel don't do it and I think Britannia have stopped.

It always used to be a bit hit and miss with them anyway. I made them
call customer services from check-in last year as I was 9Kg over. I'd
booked an
extra 5Kg and paid for it but they wre going to charge me for the 4
extra
on the basis that it was my fault I'd paid for the5 they said I could
have
free!

It depends on the airline that you're assigned to be honest.

If you want to make sure you get some more allowance then phoning the
airline in advance and joining their frequent fliers club before you
fly help (some offer extra baggage allowance even if you haven't flown
with them before). My girlfriend/buddy and myself were 35kg over with
Qatar airlines recently and even though a few eyebrows were raised
we weren't charged extra.

International

Actually, I spoke to ANA and asked. I was told that if I notified
them in advance that I would bring SCUBA gear, they would be able to
let me have additionally 10 kg checked in. I had to sit through the
usual lecture on "no preasurized bottles in neither cargo hold nor
cabin", though.

Going on a liveaboard from Hurgarda next month. Flying with Air 2000. Had a
look a their website and see 10kg of extra baggage is given to divers flying
with them. Site says get in contact 4 days before the flight to be allocated
the allowance.

fwiw if flying with Excel airways - who are used by Libra goldenjoy to Sharm
and Hurghada, you will not get any extra baggage allowance. they stopped a
couple of months ago (end June) so I was informed a day before flying out..
a risky game to start playing me thinks.. not sure if others have had the
same poor service from them..

I don't know about MyTravel either.

However I can say that 13 people took 450kgs of excess baggage on
SAS&Braathens to Narvik return without any excess to pay.

We had pre-negotiated a 30% discount on excess baggage (usually £7/kg).
When we check-in clerk was able to on-the-spot offer 10kgs extra each free.
We also put about 8kgs into out coat pockets, which is also free

However, when we spoke to the Senior Check-in member she was able to wave
the excess on the entire lot! She was more impressed that we were a large
group of 13 than anything else!

On the return flight the clerk didn't even ask!

Cheers
Matt.

Having done My Travel twice to Mexico I can say you are allowed 5kg for
Sports equipment

Where are you going to in Mexico ? some of the larger shops have good hire
facilities so just take your mask, fins and regs ( Oh yes most are A clamp)
