Default Diving @ end of M5

Quick story - need to be in Cheltenham (family stuff) on sunday, travelling
down Friday pm. Two choices for saturday - drink cider or dunk diver.

Never really done the south coast so im taking a trip down on saturday am.
I know its not really enough time to spend down there but then 1 day diving
is better than boosting the profits of Westons and HP Bulmer.

Whats the best shore dives to do as a quick splosh within 2-2.5 hrs drive of
Cheltenham. (no dont suggest the NDC - its a big bucket of water that you
have to pay to get in - I can do that for free any time up north - and i
dont particularly fancy paying to get into Wales). Not asking for anything
spectacular, just somewhere worth driving down to.

Cheers

Alex

I can only think Stoney, but it's not the best place in the world, and
you do have to pay to get in.

Maybe Bob or Fuzz could help here... they're local to where you're
staying, but I don't hold out much hope for you...

Not sure if Portland falls within the 2-2.5 hour limit or not but
if so you can head for Chesil Cove for a shore dive. Don't even
think about diving in the Bristol channel though.

Head for portland. Unless you want to drop into the docks at bristol for
some 'blind' diving practice, or have a look at the underside of the SS
Great Britain?!!!!

I thought the Great Britain was in drydock? (Its hull had more holes in it
than a teabag when I lived in Bristol).

I thought it was in a 'damp' dock, i.e. not afloat, but still in water? I'm
off up there in a couple weeks, I'll have a look.

Thanks all.

Will try to get to portland.

Stoney is out of the question - Money, Bucket of Water and weekend do not
fit in the same sentence.

Check the wind direction. If it's coming from the west, Chesil will be
lumpy for getting in or out. If thats the case, head for Brixham.

Babbacombe is fine in anything apart from an easterly, chesil is best with
the wind from the east.
2 dive sites, if one is cack, the other is generally fine.
