The Suunto compass (best on the market, in my opinion) mounted on your
wrist...

Except it is quite bulky, presents an entanglement hazard and degrades
streamlining.

A far better solution incorporating a heads-up display can be found
here:

As the proud owner of a smart-looking console compass, I have only
this to say:

Don't buy a console compass.

The suunto mini-compass, mouted on the clock.
The compass abound mounted in a jojo to a d-ring.
A cheep silva compass, could be attached to a dring at need. (Cheepr
and only survives limited number of dives, some say 100 some say 30.)

I all depend on why you want a compass.

I have a small suunto on my clock, and a silva with my spare gear.
It's so seldome you need a better compas to dive with that I can
almost all the time use the small suunto. Only for a S&R dive I would
need something better and frankly I don't other do dived like that so
I can get around with the cheep solution. (It also takes a loot less
space when diving.)

One that points North.

As the proud owner of a smart-looking console compass, I have this to say:

It's really good. I use it a lot, it's very easy to use and see, and
the hose it's attached too makes a good holding and pointing device. It
has a side-window I can read at arms length too which makes finning and
reading it very easy.

Oh come on.

You can't tease the group like that!

Al wouldn't be half the man he is if he hadn't bared all
his deep psycological problems to the group thereby
opening himself up for group ridicu^h^h^h therapy....

Stop surpressing the memories

Sure. I also do a lot of hillwalking and used to teach people the
fundamentals of mountaineering which included a lot of map and compass
work. A compass on my wrist to navigate of the hills? Nahh...

If I didn't have a console one, I'd probably invest in a bit of bunjy
or a retractable cord - something I could use to put the compass at arms
length in-front of me and use. (And thats not just because my eyes
are failing me!!!)

Erm.. Huh? If you have previously used one and it was nice, why would
you recommend they buy something else??

Tell us more!

I feel that compass-use is on the decline, or it it just me?
