Apparently every time the virus gets to a new machine, it uses that machine's mailbox to start all over again. That's depressing. How would a machine owner know that their machine is infected? | Go to this address http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ools.list.html and pick up the cleaning tools you need. I suggest both W32.Swen.A and W32.SoBig.F. After downloading them to your hard drive, turn off system restore, which will remove all previous restore points to keep Windows from reloading the virus on you machine, and run the programs, one at a time. If the virus is there, they will find it and clean it. If it's not there, they'll tell you it's not. One of the possible answers was "Switch to >Linux" Why would that cost a million dollars? if they are running an MS operating system, then they should already have everything they need to run Linux, which is availble for free. Of course, they would have to fire all their loser IT support people and hire folks who actually knew what they were doing, but that should cost a lot less than a million dollars, since they shouldn't need as many of them. In fact, I'd bet that not only would such a switch NOT cost a million dollars, it would probably *save* money over what they are paying now. -JimG -- Jim Greenlee (jkg@cc.gatech.edu) Jryy abj lbh'ir tbar naq qbar vg! This is probably accurate (and I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). I'd have to learn Linux real fast (but I don't expect it'd be a problem). > > -JimG > > -- > Jim Greenlee (jkg@cc.gatech.edu) Jryy abj lbh'ir tbar naq qbar vg! > College of Computing Whfg unq gb xrrc svqqyvat jvgu vg > Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA 30332 hagvy lbh oebxr vg, qvqa'g lbh ?! |

The current round that is causing lots of problems comes from the email that looks like it comes from MSFT and is blocked by a (I was wrong) 2.5 year old patch. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2003Sep20.html is one of many such reports on it. |
