Default Cameras Underwater

Hi,

Just want to give a quick plug for www.camerasunderwater.co.uk

I have been trying to buy a housing for my Olympus C5050Z, when I
contacted them they told me that there was a problem with a large
percentage of the housings and would not sell any more until the problem
had been fixed. They've now fixed the problem and I have ordered one.

It makes a refreshing change to deal with a company who aren't just
interested in taking your money, over the last 2 or 3 weeks they have
been incredibly helpful and always upfront about what was happening.

Nick
P.S
I have no connections with www.camerasunderwater.co.uk apart from being
a satisfied customer

Good to hear that the problem's been fixed. I had been thinking of getting
the 5050, but now the 5060's on the horizon, so I think I'll be getting
that.

Did they happen to mention what the problem with the housing was? I have one
myself which I bought from tehm about 8 months ago, and it's worked OK for
me, but if it has a known problem then I would like to know about it!

me too

Since the PT-015 looks so close to my PT-016 (same technology
but for a slightly differently shaped camera) I'd love to know.

having spoken to Cameras Underwater last week, apparently the problem
was with the mode selector dial - i.e. the dial that changes between
Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, playback etc and the o-rings in the
dial which were leaking.

Have to say that my PT-015 works fine (so far!) and I've not had any
problems, so don't know if it was just a specific batch or not.

Magic. The PT-016 is all push buttons. Nothing rotates.
I'll stop worrying then.

Thanks Simon. Maybe I'll check for serial numbers etc. and contact CU and
maybe Olympus about it. Don't want a sudden flood when not expecting it, as
I tend to travel for months at a time and don't have the option of returning
it quickly.

The C5060 is not an upgraded C5050. It in fact has several points that
for many make it a downgraded version

Some points from the Olympus4040_5050@yahoogroups.com mailing list

I think Olympus think it is. I've read the comments on dpreview.com. The
wider angle lens can only be better for UW photography surely? The
proprietary battery is a pain, but I couldn't care less about Smart Media.
It's obsolete. I don't own any and the camera takes Compact Flash.

But the main advantage is that it's supposed to be a lot quicker than the
5050. The forums are full of people complaining about how slow the 5050
is, particularly underwater.

And besides, no-one has actually seen one yet.
