Default Diving in Majorca?

Having missed out on a cheap trip to Malta in October half term week,
wife and I have booked a week in Alcudia.
Can anyone tell me if there is any diving to be had in this area? if
so, any recommendations for people to use?

TIA

Reg

Sorry to say that I think Alcudia is probably about the least interesting
dive location in Mallorca. I sailed and dived around Mallorca this summer -
and there is some great cave diving all around the island - except in the
bay of Alcudia. I have to admit I didn't actually dive in there - but that
was only because the dives in my guide book did not look that interesting
compared to stuff elsewhere on the island - so there may be some great stuff
that just wsn't in my book.

The guide book I bought for the ballearics is the best diving guide I have
ever bought with excellent descriptions (most in Spanish only but the fifty
best dives are in English) and superb illustrations and photos. I'd
recommend you buy a copy as soon as you get there, then plan around that. I
bought mine in Pollensa, just a few kms from Alcudia, but I expect it would
be available in Alcudia too. Sorry - can't remember the name now. It is down
on my boat still - I'll try and remember to bring the name home tomorrow
night.

Thanks Ric. If you could find the book it would be appreciated, but I think we
may have to travel further afield if we are going to dive at all.

Hi,
I'm just back from a week in Mallorca staying in Port Pollenca. I
dived with Scuba Mallorca (based in town) and did a couple of dives
along the SE side of Cap de Formentor. Nice dives with 25-30m vis,
but not too much to see. Lots of fish, but all of the smallish
variety.

I checked out the dive centre before booking dives with regard to
surface intervals and saw-tooth profiles etc (which I've experienced
in Mallorcan diving before). They promised me that they'd stick to
safe diving parctises with a minimum of 60 mins surface interval.

Sadly, on the day, they didn't manage to honour this...

HiCallum,

Forgive my ignorance as a newbie, but what is a sawtooth profile?

Hmm... my first attempt at ASCII Art... hope it comes out.

Above should look like a saw tooth profile, generally considered a bad thing
for decompression purposes.

Deepest dive first, start deep then gradually come shallower is the theory.
