Default Aqua Lung Monitor 2 Computers

Hi all,

Where can I get the batteries replaced on an Aqua Lung Monitor 2
computer ? I am looking for a cheaper alternative than sending it back
to Aqua Lung UK.

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

You're going to have to find somebody that has the right stuff to replace
the battery. The battery compartment on the U.S. Divers Monitor computers
was not presssure proof. The batteries are soldered in and then the
compartment is filled with a special jell. It is the jell that keeps them
safe and dry. The cover is, well, it's just a cover. The batteries aren't
hard to come by, but the right jell may be.

My Monitor I was more conservative than my wife's much more modern Oceanic.
I was a bit surprised.

I don't think Aqualung deal with them any more, you will have to go to
Scubapro/uwatec. They will charge a fortune, they quoted me £170 or
180 for any work on a monitor.

A friend of mine replaced his battery with one from RS and used
kitchen silicone to fill the compartment, it's still working.

Holy cow! As I recall, I paid about $45 U.S. for each battery replacement.
I think Force E, a local dive shop chain, did it locally (Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida). At £170, I suspect the computer could be shipped to the States,
repaired and returned for less than the cost of a battery replacement there.
You might want to expand your search for service a bit.

As Lee said, the old battery has to be cut out of the gel that it "floats"
in with a scalpel. You then cut the wires and the new battery has to be
soldered in and then sealed up again with a new bottle of gel. The stuff
takes about 24 hours to fully set, if my memory serves me right. The battery
and the bottle of gel used to be sold together in a blister pack that we
ordered from the Aqualung catalogue when I last worked in a dive store
(about 1996!). Any Aqualung/USD approved dealer/service centre used to be
able to do this in shop, but maybe they've tightened up since then.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I will attempt it myself, as I am
reasonably adept with a soldering iron...and any fool can squirt a
shit load of silicone in !

Cheers,

Dan.
