| Got a three month posting to Volta Redonda (Brazil) which is apparently about one hours drive from Rio, starting later this week. Does anyone have any experience of diving off Rio? SteveB |

No, but I have spent some time googling: Checking a map, for instance this one: http://www.silsutravel.com.ar/brazil...odejaneiro.htm we can see that Volta Redonda is nearer Angra dos Reis than Rio de Janeiro (but it is not necessarily a quicker trip, since there is an (probably quite busy) highway between Volta Redonda and Rio de Janeiro, while the roads from Volta Redonda to Angra dos Reis seem less important. Angra dos Reis is a well known beach and it seems there is also diving there. The bay there has 365 islands (some of them private). http://www.eco2000.com.br/angradosreis/ http://www.bizcon.com.br/mergulho.htm Web cam: http://www.angra-dos-reis.com/ingles...po_on_line.htm Nearby there is also Paraty http://www.zone.com.br/mergulho/inde...talhes&id=6186 This page has a couple of photos: http://www.aryamarante.fot.br/a2_fotosub02c.htm Dive center in Rio: http://rioturismoradical.com.br/port...cubadiving.htm This link is to a dive center in Cabo Frio, which is further northeast than Rio: http://www.tridente.tur.br/ Water temperatures (surprisingly cold for the tropics) here: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/water...a/Brasilia.htm Seraches in Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=Angra+dos+Reis+diving Pages in portuguese translated to English: http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools -- http://www.mat.uc.pt/~rps/ ..pt is Portugal| `Whom the gods love die young'-Menander (342-292 BC) Europe | Villeneuve 50-82, Toivonen 56-86, Senna 60-94 |
