Default VR3 - cheapest source?

Having recently sent my Aladin Smart Pro back to Scubapro for a refund, I've
decided to invest in a VR3. Cheapest source I've found so far for the basic
OC Air & Nitrox version is £560 - anyone seen it cheaper anywhere?

Also, I assume that the VR3 is completely modular, right? I know you can add
additional software features like Trimix compatibility via a 'pin' code
system but what about the hardware addons like the O2 sensor links? If I buy
the basic no thrills VR3 without any O2 sensor link now, can I add it on
later?

Cheers!

yeah - you can just send it back to Delta-P for the upgrades, prices on
the website.

Mine was ordered as just a computer (C4) but it came with the
plug so they can sell me the other bits later if I change my
mind. If the plug cover had been attached I'd have been more
impressed but I have stainless steel lockwire to hand so it
ain't going to fall off now. 8)

The Software download kit is so good I ordered two of those
Reefmaster data loggers and I'll write something myself.

Hehe. Get coding Nigel - I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see
some shareware/freeware VR3 software out there on the web and I'd certainly
be more than willing to pay a reasonable shareware fee for it too! Would
love to buy the Delta-p logging software but I can't bring myself to spend
the extra money! Personally I'd love to see some VR3 software on the
PocketPC - I used to use Traveltrak on my Dell Axim for downloading dives
instantaneously via infrared and something similar for the VR3 would be very
welcome!

I've just put the quick-hack linux interface I did up on sourceforge
if it's of any use to you...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sptools/
I expect it'll turn into something useful in due course.

I read that a new computer called VR2 has been introduced. Presumably it's
a reduced functionality, lower cost version of the VR3. Does anybody know
whether it can be upgraded to VR3 functionality? Is it just the software
that's different or are there differences in the hardware too?

Also, I believe the VR2 and VR3 don't give audible warnings. Do any VR3
users have an opinion about this? Do you think it's a significant
deficiency?

OC Nitrox VR2 RRP 499
OC Nitrox VR2 RRP 699

VR2 is Air/Nitrox only.
VR3 is Air/Nitrox & Trimix.

You cannot upgrade VR2 to Trimix. Both can be used OC or CC or SCR/KCR.

www.vr3.co.uk

The hardware is different - I beleive the case is plastic and is purple!

They do not.

It is a deficiency. A flashing light is no substitute. However, it doesn't
spoil the diving.

Matt.

Just come back from Truk and the majority of the group dive Aladdins and as
the days wear on all the groups computers were hitting deco together....what
a racket....give the guide his cue to terminate his tour, noise is not
always good!!

A sensibly placed beep, like when the deco stop has ended/time to move up,
or when a ceiling is violated, or when a gas switch or PPO2 switch is
required/pre-programmed would be nice.

Lots of non-suppressible beeping would be worse than no beeping. As I said,
it doesn't spoil the dive - but for such an advanced bit of kit it just does
lack a few nice-to-have features.

Cheers
Matt.
