I personally use a Scubapro 7mm semi dry that fits me well and I can dive most of the year in UK waters without suffering too badly from the cold. Mine has a plastic zip and I can think of no good reason to want brass... It is a one piece with a rear zip and lets the nasty cold water in gradually without the rush that I have experienced with other suits. Whatever you decide - safe diving! Regards Gary |

Perhaps 5% if that of UK divers use a wetsuit / semi-dry - there's a reason for that. Although a semi dry is a bit cheaper, it's still proper money. Buying a semi-dry, then a proper drysuit a couple of months later is a lot more expensive - just like a friend of mind did, despite me (and other people) telling him not to. Up to you, but if you really really want a semi dry, then I'd get something cheap and second hand, as you'll be replacing it pretty soon Hywel |

Yep, when I bust a seal in St Abbs a couple of weeks back the shop offered me a loan Semi. I declined and binned 3 dives until I had my suit back. I can see no point in being cold and miserable either during or after the dive by being in a wetsuit. -- Ian |

Having just said that I do dive in a dry suit for 80% of the time in the uk and always for uk salt water dives. If I had a choice I'll go for a dry suit, so get a cheapish semi and see how warm you stay, I would say semi's are only good for summer uk diving. Darren |

I saw at www.subogear.com a semi dry I like, but strangely it has the rear zip vertical not horizontal, I Never heard of this, is it normal? is it ok? any problems with vertical zip instead of horizontal as I usually have seen them ? thanks Mario |

That perfectly normal for a wet suit. A semi-dry is a wet suit with added hype. Nothing more. HTH nigelH |
